Jason Castro’s Big Bad Boo-Boo: But, Paula Abdul to the Rescue
Posted by: Gary, in Bob Dylan, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, American Idol“I lost some lines in there; that’s kinda bad.” 21-year-old Southern contestant Jason Castro made a blunder the size of Texas during Tuesday night’s American Idol.
For the millions of viewers who tuned in to watch the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-themed episode, it was a nail-biting hour filled with enough angst to power a small country.
Jason started off with a not so thrilling rendition of Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff,” which earned him several slaps on the wrist by two out of the three judges. Randy Jackson sat there chuckling before classifying the performance as “really karaoke,” while Simon Cowell spat the word “massacre” out like a sour lemon. “I can’t imagine what you were thinking,” he added unsympathetically.
Paula Abdul - being Paula - pulled her typical apprehensive thing by staying diplomatic when it came to her evaluation.
Bucking up for his second tune of the evening, Jason tried his hand at Bob Dylan’s timeless “Mr. Tambourine Man.”
Although the “Dreadlocked One” is not the first to muddle up a celebrated song, he did nothing to rectify the damage that will surely impact his career. It was clear that he hadn’t practiced much from the start, but when the second verse came along Castro literally forgot the words and opted to hum instead. Eventually he was able to recall a few lyrics but unfortunately it couldn’t save him.
All three judges were extremely unhappy with the lackluster routine. Randy said that Castro wasn’t “in the zone” and Simon actually advised him to pack his bags!
Last week the singer told Entertainment Weekly that he felt weighed down by all the attention he was receiving; that he had neglected to learn his songs in order to spend more time with his family, and that he was “kind of ready to go home.”
Wish granted!

It was time for Jason to go. He must have lost interest. Now it will really be tough to choose. The last three are all awesome!

Riddle me this: Jason forgets words and he gets lambasted by the judges. Archie forgets words and he gets praised by the judges. Proof the show is rigged? I think so.
