Remember Tuesday night’s American Idol? No, not the contestants, the songs, the farewell tears and snidey remarks but the moment when we saw the human side of Ice Man, Simon Cowell.

An ‘anonymous’ caller, during a live question-and-answer session, asked Simon how he would rate his kiss with Paula Abdul and his first kiss with the caller. The voice on the other end of the phone was that of Tara McDonald-Smith who had shared a first kiss with Cowell at the bottom of his garden in the Hertfordshire village of Radlett when he was just eight or nine years old.

Simon quickly composed himself from the embarrassing call and asked, “This is really you Tara? This literally was my first kiss, this was my first crush. My God, we’re going back 17 years,” he said, still managing a joke about his age. Cowell went on to ask Tara, “Do you still look cute?”

Both Paula and Randy Jackson added to the embarressing moment by enquiring of Tara as to whether Simon was a good kisser?

Following the telephone encounter a source close to Cowell told the Daily Mail: “He would love to meet up with Tara. He’s really glad she came forward and thinks it would be brilliant to catch up.”
Recalling the game of spin the bottle, Miss McDonald-Smith said: “It was very cute. It was my first kiss too, so I will never forget it. It was very innocent and easy.
“We didn’t know what we were doing but it was a great experience for both of us, it was very memorable.”

So a heart really does beat beneath those tight, black, muscle hugging Armani T shirts after all!
