Paula Abdul…Are You ‘Safe’?
Posted by: Gary, in Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Simon CowellWhen the entertainment on American Idol, supplied by the young singing wanna-be’s wanes, we can always look to Paula Abdul for some, albeit, brief blunders to give us the ‘waaa!’ factor.
This week was no exception as the somewhat ditzy brunette became inexplicably confused between the numbers 1 and 2.
When critiquing the first offering from one of the 5 remaining contestants, Jason Castro, Paula began rambling about his second song which was actually yet to be sung.
Behind her, Simon Cowell rolled his eyes as if to say, ‘not again Paula, get a grip!’ and Randy Jackson very gentlemanly rushed to her defense and told her it was Jason’s first song. A bewildered Paula, just sat dazed and remarked that she thought it was his second song of the evening.
In her ramblings, which she had already penned (how can that be when the song hadn’t been sung?) she mused, “Jason, first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear… the second song- I felt like your usual charm was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty. (now there’s a bit of an understatement!!!)The two songs made me feel like you’re not fighting hard enough to get into the top four.”
It would appear that Paula was having a minor brain overload as she quite confidently gave her verdict on Castro’s rendition.
There have been repeated rumours that Paula has a drugs or drink problem after several erratic appearances on talk shows and at various events but maybe there is something more sinister happening under her strange choice of hairstyles and hair ornaments, that may require more serious medical investigation, such as a brain scan!
But what also springs to mind with Paula’s pre-penned notes on the singer’s performances is, maybe the results aren’t as random as we are led to believe, but perhaps pre-planned!
Also, to add a little more excitement to an otherwise flagging show, there could be a weekly spot where the judges are actually subjected to that awful moment when they wonder if Ryan Seacrest will inform them that they are ‘safe’!

After watching how the producers chose to gloss over their own fumble (with Paula being the scapegoat), I am thoroughly insulted and will find something better to do with my Tuesday/Wednesday night time. The “rumors” Ryan referred to are the not the issue. The FACT is that Paula read a prewritten negative critique for a live performance that did not occur. There was no apology or acknowledgement of the gaffe, but there was time for Nigel to plug his dance show? American Idol has no shame and deserves the ongoing decline in the ratings.
