Neil Diamond is not only one of the most talented and prolific song writers of the past 40 years but his music is still contemporary to hear today and he has influenced the writing and singing AND performing of so many musicians that even "musicians" who don't know him at all, have been influenced by him. The people they worshipped growing up were certainly influenced by Neil. His music is sweeping in scope, wide in range and rythym and deep in melodies and poetry. I will be surprised if this week is not a standout in Idol history. His songs are melodic and singable as well as flexible for each performer. Very unllike Weber's stuff which though also fantastic does not lend itself that well to pop artists.
